A Field Guide to the Identification of Pebbles

Have you ever been walking at the beach and wondered what that pebble or rock is, or do you ever wonder what stories rocks tell? If so, then this is the guide for you.
The Field Guide to the Identification of Pebbles , a full colour, laminated, accordion folded, easy to use guide with over 80 beautiful photographs of pebbles from beaches and rivers. Use the photos to identify over 28 different types of rocks and minerals. It also provides some fun facts about minerals in our daily lives.

The Identification of Common Rocks

By Eileen Van der Flier-Keller and William J. McMillan.

The booklet deals mainly with rock types found in British Columbia and is therefore addressed to British

Columbia readers. The rocks of this province are however not unique, and the principles used here can be applied anywhere. The geology of British Columbia is fascinating; it is complex, many processes are at work, and there are a great variety of rocks. Rocks are an integral part of the landscape; being able to identify them can greatly enhance your enjoyment of the natural world.

Everyday Mineral and Rock Uses: Matching Cards

By Andrea Neumann & Eileen van der Flier-Keller

Rocks, minerals and their products play an integral role in our daily lives.  Being aware of how we use rocks and minerals is important because they are non-renewable resources.  Once they are used up, they are gone forever.  The aim of these matching cards is to make students aware of how they use rocks and minerals in their daily lives by matching pictures of these materials to products made with these minerals.

Canadian Geoscience Education Network (CGEN)

The Canadian Geoscience Education Network (CGEN) is the education arm of the Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences. CGEN is concerned with all levels of geoscience education in Canada and encourages activities designed to increase public awareness of geoscience. CGEN exists to stimulate the development of geoscience awareness activities in Canada and to coordinate the efforts of the Canadian geoscience community in matters related to geoscience education and public awareness of geoscience. It acts as a forum for discussion of matters related to geoscience education in Canada. Since programs related to education in schools are best delivered on a local scale, CGEN is a collective of grassroots activists who deliver programs in their local areas. CGEN undertakes initiatives that can only be conducted on the national scale and raises funds to support grassroots activities.

Earthlinks

Earth Links is a collection of online resources selected by the members of CGEN. CGEN (The Canadian Geoscience Education Network) is a national network of Canadian educators and professionals interested in promoting awareness of the Earth Sciences.
